The responsibilities are distributed to authorities through appropriation directions, containing targets to be achieved by government agencies, detailing available funds, and how such funds are to be allocated to various areas within the agency.
The principal responsibility of the Swedish Armed Forces is the capacity to engage in armed combat. The Swedish Armed Forces contribute to international peacekeeping and peacemaking missions around the world. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our first role is always to defend Sweden and its territories against armed attacks and to support the community in various ways.
Our highly trained soldiers are ready to deploy anywhere at any time, both in Sweden and abroad. International missions comprise additional requirements, such as quick reaction forces, i.e. units that are on immediate standby for short-term missions, as well as units for long-term deployment.
